Water Effects

Creating convincing water in miniature is a layered process that requires specific materials for each stage. PLAGARY's water effects range follows the industry-standard workflow (used by both Woodland Scenics and Noch): first, paint the waterbed in dark greens and browns for depth; second, pour clear casting resin (two-part epoxy) for deep water sections — ponds, harbours and deep rivers; third, apply self-leveling water gel (single-part, pour-and-leave) for shallow water and stream surfaces; fourth, add Water Effects gel (thicker, manipulable texture paste) for ripples, waves and surface agitation; fifth, add white highlight accents for foam and splash. Also available: pre-formed water sheets for quick results. Each layer must cure fully before the next is applied — this is not a technique to rush.
